Stay Cool with these Summer Wedding Tips!

 SummerWeddingTips1

Summer is the busiest time of the year for weddings because of the beautiful weather. However, with the beautiful weather comes blazing hot temperatures. If you don't want to compromise on the season here are a few helpful tips to keep your guests cool.

It's all in the timing:

If you wish to hold your wedding in a hot summer month like July, we usually advise a later ceremony. The sun will be at its hottest in the early afternoon, so the ideal time to hold your ceremony would be around 5pm, so that your celebration can continue in cooler temperatures.

Think shady:

If you are having an outdoor ceremony in the summer, try to choose an area that will be in the shade at the time of the ceremony, or as an alternative you can consider to cover the ceremony area with large white umbrellas to protect the guests from the hot sun (especially if the ceremony takes place around lunchtime or early afternoon).

Cheers!:

Arrange for your guests to be greeted with a drink before the ceremony begins (especially if it is outdoors) so they can immediately enjoy a cool drink as they wait for the bride to arrive.

Make a splash:

If possible, avoid a city celebration and hold your wedding in a venue near a lake or on the coast. Being near the water is an easy way to give your guests relief from the heat.

Play it cool:

On a hot day, the groom should wait until the last minute before the ceremony to put on his jacket. Often in Italy, the groom brings an extra shirt so that if needed he can change into a fresh shirt for the rest of the wedding. The bride should ask for advice from the dress designer and if it is a summer wedding ideally she should choose a dress that leaves the arms bare; we also advise to pick a light fabric for the dress so that if it is warm on the day, she can still have a great time while looking fresh and put together.

Less is more:

Fact: heat and humidity don’t go well with make-up. During your bridal make-up trial run, ask your make-up artist to give you some tips on how to make sure your make-up lasts all day. Your make-up bag must-haves will be a strong primer and a waterproof mascara; try to wear the minimum amount of make-up to let you skin breathe - and if you have a bit of a tan you won’t need much anyway!

Ditch the heels:

Why not plan ahead and have flip-flops ready for your reception? We have done this in the past and we can tell you that both female and male guests couldn’t wait to get rid of their shoes and socks and relax in flip-flops - and it will make dancing that little bit easier, too!

Wedding Day Emergencies and How To Deal!

Emergency Survival Kit We’ve all heard those wedding horror stories – wardrobe malfunctions, falls, even the odd runaway groom. It’s an unfortunate fact of life, but wedding day emergencies do happen! Here’s a list of tips to help save the day in the event of a wedding emergency.

Wedding Day Emergency #1 – The Wardrobe

Day by day, wardrobe malfunctions happen. Usually they’re just a small tear, here or there, maybe your stockings have laddered, shirt’s torn – the usual daily occurrence. It’s not often that you’ll hear of entire dresses tearing away, leaving you exposed in front of friends and family – but it’s best to be prepared. Before the wedding – decide on what you’d like to wear, get it fitted out and have it ready at least 2 weeks before the wedding. This will usually give enough time to sort out any issues before the day comes around. On the day – carry an extra pair of pantyhose, if your current pair ladder, just quickly change into the new set. A needle and thread, as well as safety pins, are life savers for tears and other quick modifications that need doing. Keep a few handy.

Wedding Day Emergency #2 – Body Issues

Falls happen, and you’ll cut yourself at the most inconvenient times. Keep a few band-aids on hand, as well as a box of tissues (these will also come in handy if you start to tear up). Keep a box of aspirins for those unexpected headaches for you and your bridesmaids. A bottle of hairspray or gel will save your bad hair day, and consider keeping a box of crackers in a small bag – you may have little time to eat on the day of the wedding! On that note, keep some breath mints or a travel toothbrush handy in case you get carried away with those chive and onion crackers. In short, a wedding day emergency kit will help mitigate any unforeseen circumstances!

Wedding Day Emergency #3 – The Venue

Make sure to inspect your wedding reception venue before the day of the wedding, and on the big day in order to avoid potential wedding day emergencies. Look for a function venue that has the space and services you need – a large dance floor, PA system, ample parking etc. Look for testimonials and other reviews, to make sure you’re looking at a quality and reliable function venue.

With a little preparation and planning, those unforseen wedding emergencies will seem like a feather in the wind, brushing straight past with no problem at all.

Real {North Carolina} Wedding: Brooke & James #Foreverberry Fairytale

Brooke + James - Kiwi and Gray Wedding 10

They say in college you will meet the people you will be friends with for the rest of your life and if you are lucky, you will meet the love of your life. Brooke and James almost missed each other at North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro, North Carolina but fate brought them together in Miami, Florida while Brooke was on vacation. This beautiful couple got engaged on Brooke's birthday, November 15, 2012 and were married a little under a year later on June 23, 2013. Brooke's favorite quote is "Love is in the details" and she focused on just that to create the Wedding of her dreams. Check out the #Foreverberry Fairytale below.

Brooke + James - Kiwi and Gray Wedding 14

The couple chose Kiwi and Grey as their color palette. I never would've thought of using kiwi green, but I love how the two colors came together!

Brooke + James - Kiwi and Gray Wedding 11

The bride is already a natural beauty, so the subtle neutral makeup only enhanced her gorgeous face and what girl doesn't love a sparkly pair of shoes? Instead of opting for a full sequin shoe, find a shoe with just a sequin heel for a subtle touch.

Brooke + James - Kiwi and Gray Wedding 2

Brooke + James - Kiwi and Gray Wedding 3

Brooke + James - Kiwi and Gray Wedding 1

The bridesmaids were glamorous and sparkly wearing long, curve-fitting gowns and lots of bling also, each of the bridesmaids bouquets were different. The flower girls wore custom tutu gowns and instead of tossing flower petals, carried a DIY sign that announced, Here Comes the Bride!

Brooke + James - Kiwi and Gray Wedding 5

Brooke + James - Kiwi and Gray Wedding 6

The groomsmen wore traditional, sleek tuxes and converse sneakers with patterned socks. James had a custom pair of converse designed especially for the day with their social media tag #foreverberry embroidered into the shoe.

Brooke + James - Kiwi and Gray Wedding 9

It was very important to the couple that both families had an amazing time at the cocktail reception, so they set it up like a lounge so everyone could mix and mingle, have drinks, eat and ultimately dance the afternoon away!

When asked about her wedding day, Brooke said simply, "[it] was truly amazing".

DIY Wedding Wishing Tree

Wedding_Wishing_Tree_original Are you looking for a small way to make your wedding stand out? Instead of a tradional guestbook, try a Wishing Tree. With origins in Holland, guests write their well wishes for the couple on small pieces of paper and hang them on a tree with string or hooks. The tree can be customized to fit any theme and color to blend in with the rest of the reception space. You can order an already made wishing tree from several sites or you can save a few dollars and make it yourself! Check out the step by step instructions below.

You Will Need:

  • Bare tree branches (e.g., manzanita, mitsumata, etc. – about 3 to 4 feet in height) – look in your backyard for some tree branches, too! You can use one large branch or several smaller ones.
  • Tree planter (vase, box, or pot large enough to hold the branche(s) and goes with your wedding theme)
  • Craft cement. If you are using a glass vase, then you can use clear or colored marbles/rocks as the anchor.
  • Floral Foam (for stuffing the tree planter. Foam not needed for glass vases).
  • Blank business-sized note cards
  • Thin ribbon - for haning the note cards
  • A nice tray to hold the blank wish cards AND pens
  • Fresh flowers - 1-2 bunches of flowers for flower bed covering (depending on type of flower you are using).
  • Clear fish wire or glue gun (optional) – if you want to attach a few flowers to some of the branches.
  • Colored cardstock (in your color theme) and glue stick (optional) – to make a Wish Tree instructions sign.

Instructons:

  1. Place branch(es) in planter or vase.
  2. If you are using clear vase, then fill the vase with heavy rocks, marbles, etc. Make sure the branches are stable. You can lean the branches diagonaly on each side of the vase for better stability.
  3. If you are using a solid planter, fill a quarter of the base with cement to set the branch in it’s position. fill the rest of the planter with floral foam, leaving about 1-2 inches of space from the top of the planter.
  4. Fill the planter with water to ensure floral foam soaks up the water. Do NOT fill water all the way to the top of the planter, as you will spill the water when you transport it.
  5. Cut your fresh flowers down (at an angle) leaving about 2 inches stem.
  6. Stick your flowers into floral foam, covering the entire base to make the flower bed.
  7. TIP: Water your foam everyday to ensure foam has water to feed your flowers!
  8. Cut colored paper into business size cards and punch hole on left side.
  9. Cut ribbon about 14″ long and tie around punched hole. You can tie the loose ends together or have your guests do it when they hang their card.
  10. Optional – If you would like to add flowers to branches, cut flower down to it’s base and simply glue or tie single flowers onto branch with glue gun or fishing wire. Do this as last as possible, because your flowers on the branch will not have any water source and may wilt by the end of the day, depending on the type of flower you use!
  11. Optional - To make your Wish Tree instructions sign, print out the following message (you can change wording if you’d like) on your cardstock and glue onto another cardstock of your theme colors.

Save While You Savor: 2 Favorite #DIY Desserts in Jars!

Peach cobbler in a jar Peach Crisp in a Jar Recipe

Ingredients:

Peach Crisp Filling: 6 fresh peaches, peeled and chopped 1 cup sugar 1/2 tsp. cinnamon 2 eggs beaten Juice from one lemon (I used a lime because I didn’t have a lemon on hand) 1/2 cup of flour

Graham Cracker Crust: 16 graham crackers crushed 6 tablespoons melted butter 2 tablespoons sugar

Crumble Topping: 1 1/4 cups flour 1/2 cup brown sugar 1/4 tsp. salt 1/4 tsp. cinnamon one stick of butter, melted

Instructions: Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Prepare peaches. In a large bowl, combine peaches along with the rest of the peach crisp filling ingredients. Set aside.

Place crushed graham crackers, melted butter and sugar in a medium bowl and mix thoroughly. Press several tablespoons of the mixture into each jar and press down with a measuring cup. Mix ingredients for crumble topping using a whisk.

Set aside crumble topping.

Add peach filling to the jars, making sure you leave room for the crumble topping.

Spoon crumble mixture on top of peach filling. If you are planning to add a lid, do not overfill. Place jars on a parchment lined baking sheet and bake for 30-35 minutes on a low oven rack.

banana-bread-recipe-4

Banana Bread in a Jar Recipe  (Makes one dozen 250 ml jars)

Ingredients:

2/3 cup shortening 2 2/3 cups white sugar 4 eggs 2 cups mashed bananas 2/3 cup water 3 1/3 cups all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon baking powder 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 1/2 teaspoons salt 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1 teaspoon ground cloves (I used half a teaspoon because I didn’t want mine too ‘clovey’.) 2/3 cup chopped pecans or walnuts

You might also need:

12 250 ml canning jars funnel

Instructions: If you are planning on storing these for a while, you will need to sterilize your jars. Preheat oven to 325 degrees F (165 degrees C). Grease insides of a dozen 250ml canning jars. In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar until light and fluffy.

Mash bananas. Beat in eggs, bananas, and water. Sift together flour, baking powder, soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves. Add to banana mixture. Add nuts and stir them in with spoon. Insert canning funnel into mouth of jar and pour mixture into greased jars, filling half full. Place jars directly on rack in oven. Do NOT put lids on jars for baking. Be careful to keep the rims clean, wiping off any batter that gets on the rims. Bake for 45 minutes. Don’t worry if a few rise over the top of the jar a bit like this one. You can press it down with the lid.

Note: To be safe, I wouldn’t make these more than a week before your wedding or event. We don’t endorse keeping for long periods because we are not food scientists and cannot speak to longevity canned bread.

#BrideToBe Advice: 7 Foods That Can Reduce Stress

angry-bride Planning a wedding can be super stressful. Between finding the perfect dress, playing mediator between bridesmaids and dealing with several different vendors to ensure that your big day is perfect, it can be a lot for one person to handle. Hiring Favored by Yodit Events would be the PERFECT solution : ), but if you can't check out the seven foods that can reduce stress below.

1. Turkey: Turkey contains tryptophan, an amino acid that boosts serotonin production, which helps alleviate stress. Add turkey to your morning omelet or slice it up into a salad at lunch.

2. Spinach: This leafy vegetable is great source of magnesium, a mineral that helps promote a sense of calm. Spinach, which is a great source of fiber, also helps boost your energy levels. Opt for this instead of lettuce in your salad at lunch.

3. Salmon: This fish is full of Omega 3 essential fatty acids, which help to boost serotonin production. The DHA (docosahexanoic acid) in Omega 3 fats help to nourish the brain while mitigating stress hormones. Plus, the Omega 3 in salmon can reduce inflammation and promote healthy blood flow, both of which are compromised with chronic stress. Enjoy wild Alaskan salmon up to three times a week.

4. Nuts and seeds: Nuts and seeds are a rich source of Omega 3 and Omega 6 essential fatty acids, which help reduce stress. Walnuts are one of the best sources of Omega 3s. Cashews and sunflower seeds also contain tryptophan, which boosts serotonin production and can take the edge off a stressful day. Have a handful of nuts as an afternoon snack.

5. Oatmeal: The complex carbohydrates in oatmeal help to boost serotonin production. Plus, oats have a lot of calming magnesium as well as potassium, which has been shown to help lower blood pressure. Have a bowl for breakfast with some walnuts and cashews, as well as some cinnamon to help stabilize your blood sugar, and you will on your way to a more tranquil day.

6. Citrus fruit: Oranges, grapefruit, and other citrus fruits are a great way to get your vitamin C, which studies show reduces stress levels. Plus, vitamin C is a powerful antioxidant that boosts your immune system. Have an orange in the afternoon for a calming and nourishing snack.

7. Sweet potatoes and carrots: Root vegetables are a good source of fiber and carbohydrates, which can help to boost serotonin production. Plus, because they are subtly sweet, they can offset cravings for sugar. Sweet potatoes and carrots are also a great source of vitamins and minerals that are good for your blood pressure and your heart. Have a handful of baby carrots with some almond butter in the afternoon or a sweet potato with dinner a couple of times a week.
